Student leaders and representatives from Saint Elizabeth Elementary School in Pleasant Hills, PA, were on hand Friday evening, December 7, at the WTAE-TV studios, in Wilkinsburg, for a very special cause, the WTAE-TV Project Bundle-Up Telethon. The students were invited to appear live at the telethon as a top weather school contributor of the year to the organization. Saint Elizabeth students, faculty and staff raised over $1,000 for Project Bundle-Up, which provides winter outerwear to children and senior citizens throughout Western Pennsylvania.
St. Elizabeth School’s fundraising efforts for Project Bundle-Up were initiated and organized by longtime St. Elizabeth teacher Miss Rachel Kuzio, who first had the idea to invite WTAE-TV’s meteorologists to the school as part of its celebration of Catholic Schools Week. In conjunction with that invitation, Project Bundle-Up was chosen by St. Elizabeth Elementary School as their schoolwide service project for the 2017-2018 academic year. The school held three separate fundraising events to raise money for the worthy cause, including a Steeler’s basket raffle, a dress down day, a bake sale, and a Boogie for Bundle Up dance.
Saint Elizabeth’s fundraising events culminated during Catholic Schools Week, with a visit from WTAE-TV’s meteorology department and the Carnegie Science Center. The team of visitors had lunch with members of the Student Leaders and faculty advisors, before putting on a weather-related science and math assembly for the entire school. At that assembly, Saint Elizabeth student leaders presented WTAE-TV with a check for $1,081.95 for Project Bundle-Up. This was one of the highest donations collected by a school for the year.
As a result of their generous donation, representatives from the Student Leaders were invited to the WTAE-TV studios to present their donation check live at the telethon. Saint Elizabeth School , Ms. Linda Bechtol, and , Mrs. Sue Lydon, accompanied more than a dozen students to the donation presentation at the Project Bundle-Up telethon.
